Navigating Care Needs for the Dementia and Alzheimer’s Patient

This course is designed to increase the knowledge of healthcare providers who care for people with Alzheimer’s Dementia through a general overview of the signs and symptoms of Alzheimer’s Dementia. Nurses are also presented with communication techniques important for each stage of Alzheimer’s as well as diagnosis and the role genetics plays in the disease process. Additionally, a brief overview of treatment options and their impact on the caregiver will be presented.
 
Learning Objectives 
  • Define dementia.
  • Identify the types of dementia.
  • Describe the progression of the disease.
  • List effective communication strategies.
Course Outcome
Participants will understand the communication, care and resources patients and their caregivers may need during the different phases of dementia.
 
Completion Criteria
The following are required before successfully earning 1.0 contact hours.

  • A completed course evaluation must be submitted before receiving contact hours.
